When gambling was legalized in Las Vegas in 1931, the old railroad town practically transformed overnight into a mecca for gamblers and showgirls. Casinos sprouted up out of the desert landscape, and while slot machines and blackjack tables might have been the reason people came, the theaters were the reason many stayed.
